Scope of service

Just editing or full post-production – what does your film need?

The term editing can mean both simple arrangement of shots and the entire process leading to a finished file. Before comparing offers, it is worth checking whether the price includes sound, colour, graphics, subtitles, and preparation of versions for all channels.

Just editing or full post-production – what does your film need?

Short answer

Short answer

Just editing is enough if the material is well recorded, has a simple form, and does not require elaborate styling. Full post-production is needed when raw files require organisation, sound and image improvement, animation, or several final versions.

What basic editing usually includes

The basic scope focuses on story and pace. The editor selects shots, removes errors, arranges the material, and adds provided music or graphics. This is sufficient for films that were well prepared at the recording stage.

  • One or two cameras.
  • Clean, synchronised sound.
  • Ready logo, title cards, and branding.
  • One target publication format.

When further stages become necessary

If the recordings come from different cameras, locations and microphones, they need to be aligned first. Graphics require preparation, noise needs cleaning, and horizontal footage may require separate cropping to vertical.

Full post-production is not about adding effects for the sake of effects. Its task is to remove technical differences and prepare a coherent film for publication.

Full post-production is needed when the file should be ready without further work

  • The footage comes from several cameras or separate recorders.
  • The film needs its own graphics, animations or subtitles.
  • Sound and colour require clear improvement.
  • You need horizontal, vertical versions and additional highlights.

Frequently asked questions

Should colour correction be included in the editing price?

Basic image alignment is often part of editing. An individual look and advanced grading are worth describing as a separate scope.

Are subtitles part of the editing?

It depends on the offer. Automatic transcription still requires correction, text division and adjustment to safe screen areas.

How to avoid additional costs?

Before starting, agree on the list of final files, number of revision rounds and who provides music, graphics and translations.
